Viaggio in Perù con PerùEtico – Turismo Responsabile e Solidale

From one end of Bolivia to the other: we will set off from the beautiful city of Sucre, famous for its temperate climate and architecture, before discovering Potosí with the Cerro Rico silver mine at 4,000 meters above sea level. We will then continue to the Salar de Uyuni with its thermal baths and geysers, the Siloli and Dalí deserts, multicolored lagoons, flamingos, Incahuasi Island, and the train cemetery.

Naturally, our journey wouldn’t be complete without La Paz—featuring its historic center and the Valley of the Moon—and Tiwanacu with its massive monoliths. To top it all off in style, we will head into the jungle of Trinidad at Chuchini. All of this allows us to truly tip-toe into the spirit of this country like genuine travelers.

Intercontinental flight to Santa Cruz and connecting flight to Sucre. Upon arrival, meeting at the airport with our local representative and transfer to the B&B. The afternoon will be free to rest, allowing for a gradual acclimation to the altitude. We recommend eating light meals.

After breakfast, accompanied by our guide, we will explore the city and its museums. We will visit the central market and the Casa de la Libertad, the historic site where Bolivia’s independence was signed. We will then continue to Recoleta Square to enjoy the viewpoint overlooking the historical center, and discover the ASUR museum with its rich exhibition of indigenous textiles, before concluding with a visit to the church of San Felipe Neri.

Today, we will head toward the “De los Frailes” mountain range in our 4×4 vehicle until reaching the Chataquila Pass at an altitude of 3,600 meters. From this point, we will descend on foot down the other side of the mountain, following a striking pre-Columbian trail and enjoying breathtaking views. After a walk of approximately three hours, we will board the 4×4 again to continue our journey toward the Maragua Crater. In the heart of the crater, we will visit the local village, where the inhabitants, belonging to the Jal’qa culture, craft complex textiles of great interest. Return to Sucre in the evening.

In the morning, we will travel via private transport to Potosí. During the 17th century, the “Villa Imperial” was one of the largest and wealthiest cities in the world, owing to the silver extracted from “Cerro Rico,” the mountain overlooking the city. We will then have a free afternoon—an ideal opportunity to visit the Casa de la Moneda Museum and dive into Potosí’s colonial history, an era marked by immense wealth as well as great hardship for the indigenous populations.

After breakfast, accompanied by our specialized local guide, we will visit one of the active mines of Cerro Rico. We will descend into the mine to gain first-hand insight into the miners’ daily work and learn about their traditional legends. In the afternoon, we will travel via private transport to Uyuni, a journey of approximately four hours.

In the morning, we will begin our 4×4 tour with other tourists (maximum 4 people), visiting the “Train Cemetery” as our first stop, a testament to the era when Uyuni was Bolivia’s railway hub. We will then head toward Colchani, where we will stop at a local handicraft market. We will enter the Salar de Uyuni to visit its salt monuments and then cross this immense white desert to Incahuasi Island, known for its giant cacti. Here, we can hike to the top of the island to enjoy a 360° view of the Salar. In the afternoon, we will continue our journey south across the desert until reaching the village, where we will have dinner and spend the night in a lodge.

We will begin the day by passing through the small Chiguana salt flat, then cross the old railway connecting Uyuni to the Chilean ports. We will observe the Ollagüe volcano, which is still active, before taking the road leading to the lagoons, which we will visit one after another: Laguna Cañapa, Laguna Hedionda, and Laguna Honda. Next, we will cross the Siloli Desert, where we will visit the Stone Tree before reaching the famous Laguna Colorada, populated by thousands of pink flamingos. We will spend the night in a shelter in the village of Huayllajara.

We will depart very early to reach the “Sol de Mañana” geysers at sunrise—at nearly five thousand meters high—during their moment of peak activity. Then, we will head to the Polques hot springs, where we will have time to bathe in the outdoor pools. Afterward, we will visit the Salvador Dalí Desert with its surreal landscapes. From this point on, we will begin our return journey toward Uyuni, passing through the “Valle de las Rocas” (Valley of the Rocks). We will arrive in Uyuni in the late afternoon and, in the evening, board the overnight bus back to La Paz.

Upon arrival at the La Paz bus station, we will meet our local representative for the transfer to the hotel, where a room will be available immediately upon arrival. After a few hours of rest, we will begin the city tour of La Paz accompanied by a local guide. There will be no shortage of sights: we will discover the Witches’ Market, the Church of San Francisco, Plaza Murillo, and the colonial street Calle Jaén, before heading toward the striking Valley of the Moon and enjoying a ride on the city’s modern cable cars.

We will depart from La Paz by private transport to visit the Tiwanacu archaeological site, the most important in the country and considered the oldest urban structure in South America, located about two hours from the capital. Together with our guide, we will visit its famous monoliths, the pyramid, the various structures, and the site museum. In the afternoon, we will return to La Paz.

Transfer to the airport to take a domestic flight to Trinidad with a layover in Cochabamba. The Chuchini Lodge driver will greet you upon your arrival to accompany you to the lodge, located in the heart of the forest within the reserve of the same name. Check-in and free time to relax.

After a nice breakfast with tropical fruits, we begin a short trek in the forest to observe Amazonian plants and trees. We return to the lodge for lunch. In the afternoon, we venture deeper into the forest and walk to the “Media Luna” lagoon. In the evening, we navigate the river to spot caimans.

In the morning, we navigate the Ibare River to its confluence with the Mamoré River, observing birds, turtles, and pink river dolphins. You may also spot other animals approaching the riverbanks. After lunch, transfer to the airport for your flight to Santa Cruz, also with a layover in Cochabamba. Hotel check-in and overnight stay.
