Get to Machu Picchu on foot, using the same path traveled by the Incas more than half a millennium ago. You will walk the beautiful path made of stones, which lead from the gorge of the river Urubamba up to Machu Picchu. The 12km trail starts at km.104 and will take you to the Sun Gate, with a unique view of the citadel.
We will pick you up at your hotel at dawn to begin the Royal Inca Trail. We will travel via private transport from Cusco to the Ollantaytambo station, where we will board the train taking us to Km 104. From here, we will begin our 12-kilometer hike toward Machu Picchu. Our journey will start with a visit to the archaeological site of Chachabamba (2,270 m); next, we will head toward the splendid complex of Wiñay Wayna (2,650 m), considered the most important and spectacular site near Machu Picchu. We will continue our ascent until reaching Inti Punku, the famous Sun Gate: from this privileged spot, we will finally enjoy a breathtaking view of the citadel of Machu Picchu unfolding before our eyes. After a brief introductory tour of the archaeological complex, we will take the bus down to Aguas Calientes, where we will rest at the hotel for the night.
At dawn, we will return to Machu Picchu: we will take the bus from Aguas Calientes to enter the “Lost City,” world-renowned for its imposing ruins and dizzying views of the Urubamba Valley flowing 400 meters below. A UNESCO World Heritage site and one of the New Seven Wonders of the World, this sanctuary will welcome us at the most evocative time of day. We will take a guided tour lasting approximately two and a half hours, during which we will uncover the secrets and history of this unique site together. For the most adventurous, there will also be the opportunity to hike to the top of Huayna Picchu for an even more spectacular perspective. In the afternoon, we will take the train to Ollantaytambo (or Poroy) followed by a shared bus transfer with other tourists to Cusco.
