Machu Picchu: new access routes enabled from 2020

The Municipality of Machu Picchu, together with Cusco’s Ministry of Culture and the Administration of the Historic Sanctuary of Machu Picchu, has designed new access routes to the Inca citadel.

The so-called “Amazon access” will include the community of Intihuatana through the sectors of San Miguel, Inkarakay, Mandor, Puente Ruinas up to Machu Picchu Pueblo. The second route will connect the communities of Choquellusca, on the border between Piscacucho and Ollantaytambo district, with San Antonio de Torontoy, up to Machu Picchu Pueblo. An improvement of the pedestrian paths, roads and natural areas is also expected. In addition, information will be given to local communities members regarding the environment and biodiversity conservation.
