The Amazon
It’s for sure one of the most interesting parts of the whole country. East of the Andes the Peruvian Amazon extends over near half of the Peruvian territory (60%), a region characterized by a “pedemontana” zone and alluvial lowland. It is located between the Andes and the borders with Colombia and Brazil, and is divided into 2 areas: the cloud forest and the lowland jungle.
The Manu National Park, unique in the world with its rainforest, and the Natural Reserve of Tambopata are respectively at the same distance from Cusco: 7-hour-ride (by bus) or less than 1 hour flight.
